Becoming a Mountain Guide

The Slovenian Mountain Guides Association trains candidates for the profession of mountain guide according to IFMGA standards. The 80-day training program includes courses in theoretical and practical basics of mountain guiding – courses in rock climbing, snow and ice climbing, ski touring in high mountains, and all related exams.

Individuals who have the required mountaineering knowledge and experience according to regulations and have successfully passed the entrance exam can join the three-year training program.

An aspirant mountain guide is someone who has successfully completed the training and has a confirmed guiding logbook and licence for the current year.

An aspirant guide obtains a full IFMGA guide status upon successfully completing a one-year aspirant training and a final guide exam. They demonstrate their professional competence with a confirmed guide card for the current year and a guide badge.
